Best games for the Apple iPad

With its 1Ghz processor, 9.7 inch screen and touch capabilities the iPad makes a surprisingly good gaming machine. It removes the obstacles which kept the iPhone from being truly great for games and game developers are already seizing its strengths by creating new games with better graphics and controls. The games are a bit more expensive, however – so you´ll want to make sure you buy only the best.

N.O.V.A.

One of the best shooters for the iPhone, N.O.V.A. has been updated to take advantage of the iPad´s better hardware. The graphics of the iPad version is nearly as good as the graphics of original Xbox games such as Halo. The larger screen has also allowed for larger, better controls which feel more natural than the tiny buttons on the iPhone version. If you´re looking for a shoot-em-up N.O.V.A can´t be beat.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert

Touchscreen interfaces work wonderfully with strategy games and Command and Conquer: Red Alert is an excellent example of why. The controls are extremely intuitive. Want to scroll to another location? Just swipe and drag with a finger. Want to select a group of units? Use your fingers to draw a box around your forces. The typical pinching gesture is used for zooming in and and out. The game looks good, as well, with crisp graphics which fit Command and Conquer´s traditionally campy style.
