Apple ipad, ipod, iphone, itouch, ipay, itablet, ilap?

In an age when technology has focused on being smaller, more compact and more convenient, Apple made the bold move to do the opposite – create a product that is larger and less portable than the average cell phone. Rather than being a hand-held device, the iPad seems to have been designed to fit snugly in the pocket of Paul Bunyan´s pants. Of course, the sizing could be part of a larger, society-enriching effort; creating a massively oversized iPod may be Apple´s attempt to finally lure the mysterious Yeti into the public light. Instead of blurry pictures of the mythical creature, the world could get a detailed look at the beast, possibly via the iPad´s 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display. Word has it, the picture is so clear you can see the glimmer of all of the money wasted on the product reflecting in the screen.

The initial reaction of many to the iPad was confusion – why would I need an obnoxiously large version of the iPhone? Wouldn´t that be like trading in my iPhone for the one used by Zack Morris on “Saved By The Bell”? But that´s where Jobs and company defied expectations again. Instead of just expanding the size, Apple decided to decrease the number of features; 3G connectivity doesn´t come standard, unless you want to fork over an additional $129 for the privilege. While most companies are busy trying to pack in more features for less money, Apple showed just how ground-breaking it is by doing the opposite, prompting some to wonder whether Steve Jobs is in fact George Costanza.

Apple didn´t stop there, though. The iPad also doesn´t feature a camera, possibly because being able to view your own photos on the stunning, smaller-than-any-laptop display might distract you too much from real life. And those foolishly referring to the product as merely an iPhone on steroids will be put in their place when they realize the iPad cannot make phone calls. In essence, then, the iPad is really an iPhone with emasculating, steroid-like side effects.
